CANACONA: A family on their way to Karnataka for a pilgrimage escaped safe and sound after their Car turned turtle at Shellim in Loliem-Polem early Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the family from Margao was travelling towards Karwar when their Swift Car bearing registration no.GA-09 A 5198, moving at high speed, turned turtle at a slight turn on reaching Shellim at about 5.30 am early Tuesday morning.
All four occupants are safe and sound except a woman who had a slight cut above her eyes and is provided first aid at CHC Canacona.
According to Sandeep Kudalkar, driving the car informed, they were going on a religious visit to Karnataka, and the vehicle suddenly gained speed at the turn, due to which it turned turtle and fell on the road upside-down, resting on its top. ‘Don’t know what went wrong, but by God’s grace, we all are safe except for my mother suffering a small cut on her eyes above. Police arrived and helped us, and mummy got her first aid from Canacona government hospital. However, our vehicle got badly damaged in this Self-accident.’
Incidentally, a few locals rushed to help the family, and a little later, a mini vehicle crane pulled back the car and brought on its wheels.
According to locals, even though the road is better, the sharp turn is very treacherous, catching the motorists off-guard, and in the past several accidents have taken place, including at least 2 deaths at the site, ‘motorists need to drive cautiously at this NH-66 Section’, informed a local.
