VASCO: It was a miraculous escape for a senior citizens couple from Dando Velsao after a coconut tree fell on their car while they had arrived for an early morning Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Thursday morning.
According to social worker Roquezinho D’Souza, the couple were still in the car when the coconut tree fell on the car
“It was a huge sound, and the next moment we realised that the coconut tree had fallen on the car of Pedranthony Fernandes, who was along with his wife Maria Satira and had come to the Church for the early morning mass. The husband somehow exited the car and pulled his wife, who was still trapped there. Miraculously there was no loss of life, and the family, despite being in pain, attended the mass. The lady has been injured, and her hand was dislocated, and she was sent to the hospital and sent back home,” said D’Souza
When contacted, Pedranthony Fernandes said that he and his wife had gone to the church for the mass
“I was leaving the house for the mass when my wife said she also wanted to come, and we left our house and went to the Church. Just as we reached the church, there was heavy rain and strong winds, and we decided to wait in the car till the rains slowed down. Before we could realise it, a strong wind and a coconut tree fell on our car right before our eyes. It was so quick that we could not escape as we saw the tree fall on the car. I somehow managed to get out of the car, but my wife was trapped, and I later pulled her out. It is God’s grace that the coconut tree fell on another tree and then on the compound before it fell on our car. We have miraculously survived the incident,” said Fernandes
The lady Maria Satira Fernandes said that she was left with a dislocated shoulder but managed to survive the incident
“It is still shocking that we survived a coconut tree falling on our car. I was badly trapped in the car, but I did not face any major injuries except that my shoulder was dislocated. My husband managed to pull me out of the car, and I decided to attend the Mass before I went to the hospital. We attended the mass and went to the hospital, Where I was treated and sent back home,” said Fernandes
