CANACONA: The traditional Feast of The Miraculous Holy Cross Val-Agonda generated by parishioners of Agonda and devotees all over is celebrated with great faith and devotion.
Preaching his homily at the Feast mass Fr. Aidan Fernandes, called on the faithful’s to be missionaries of God’s word. ‘It is not necessary that you need to be a priest or Nuns to spread the word of God. We all as layman through our daily living can spread the Good News and be the missionaries of Jesus Christ’, Fr. Aidan.
Agonda Parish Priest Fr. Patrick Luis , Assistant to Parish priest Fr. Baltazar Fernandes, Fr. Octavino Cunha, Fr. Darrell Fernandes, Fr. Sean Cardozo were the co-celebrants at Feast mass which was preceded by litany at the Holy Cross.
Incidentally, preceding the feast celebrations on Wednesday Triduum masses were held for three days beginning Sunday as a preparation for the feast.
Hundreds of devotees attended the tridum masses held for last three days as well as the Feast mass on Wednesday, with many coming to thank for the gift devotees have obtained through petitions and prayers at the Holy Cross. Similarly, many have attended with their petitions before the miraculous Holy Cross. Devotees including non-Catholics from the village and other parts of the state also attended the Feast mass. Cutting across religions, miraculous Holy Cross of Val-Agonda is regularly venerated by fishermen and tourism stakeholders of Agonda village and surrounding areas.
Incidentally, the Feast is annually traditionally celebrated by the parishioners of Agonda, while St.Annes Boys of Agonda working in Houston, Texas in USA has contributed for the expenses of this years feast costs.
An award winning Konkani drama ‘Daddy’s Home’ by Fr. Milton Rodrigues was staged at the church premises later in the night.
