CANACONA: Canacona Police Station registered an unnatural death (UD) case on February 22, 2026 after receiving information from a lifeguard about a body floating in the Arabian Sea at Pollem Beach.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Vigneshwar Naik (19), a resident of Ankola, Uttar Kannada, Karnataka. He had been reported missing since February 20, 2026, and a missing person report had earlier been registered at Canacona Police Station.
The body was identified by the deceased’s uncle, Shrikant Naik, also a resident of Uttar Kannada, Karnataka.
Police conducted a scene of occurrence panchanama and inquest panchanama before referring the body for post-mortem examination at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao. The Police Surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “No opinion in view of advanced decomposition. However, tissue samples preserved for diatom study.”
The body was later handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
