BICHOLIM: Bicholim police have registered an unnatural death case after the body of a 52-year-old woman was found floating in river water near Sinore Jetty at Dhakul Maina, Navelim, Sanquelim.
According to police, on January 17, 2026, at around 6 pm, information was received that the body of a woman was seen floating in the river at the said location. Following the information, Bicholim Police Station registered Unnatural Death (UD) No. 06/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at around 7.09 pm.
PSI Krishna Gawas, along with staff of Bicholim Police Station, visited the spot and found that the body was stuck in dry bushes at a water-receded portion of the river due to low tide. The body was retrieved from the area with the help of members of the general public.
The deceased was identified as Mrs Saanvi Parmekar, wife of Sunil Parmekar, aged 52 years, a resident of House No. 485, Mauswada, Pernem, North Goa. Preliminary enquiry with family members revealed that the woman had been staying at her maternal house for the past six years and was mentally ill. Police further learnt that she had been reported missing since January 16, 2026.
An inquest panchanama was conducted over the body, following which it was sent for preservation to the GMC morgue at Bambolim for further medico-legal procedures.
Police said further enquiry in the case is in progress and is being conducted by PSI Krishna Gawas of Bicholim Police Station.
