VASCO: In response to the tragic drowning of two students last year, MLA Antonio Vas, representing the Cortalim constituency, led a joint inspection today at the quarry situated on the Cansaulim-Cuelim Road. Accompanied by officials from various government departments, important safety measures taken to enhance the site’s security were reviewed. During the inspection, it was noted that significant steps have been taken to prevent future accidents. A part of the quarry has been landfilled, and effective drainage systems have been established to prevent water accumulation, reducing the risk of drowning. MLA Vas emphasized the importance of these measures, stating, “The safety of our community is our utmost priority. The tragic loss of two young lives last year underscored the need for immediate action. We have implemented these measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.” Besides the landfilling and drainage improvements, access to the quarry from the main road has been barricaded to prevent unauthorized entry. Warning signs have also been strategically positioned around the area to alert the public of potential dangers. The joint inspection team included representatives from the local administration, public works department, police, and safety regulators. Officials expressed confidence that these comprehensive safety measures would significantly reduce the risk of future incidents. The inspection concluded with a commitment to continuous monitoring and further enhancements if needed. MLA Vas assured the community of ongoing efforts to maintain a safe environment, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and preventive actions.
