PANAJI: Reacting to allegations of “Vote Chori” raised by the opposition, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo dismissed the controversy as a politically motivated stunt aimed at influencing the upcoming Bihar elections.
Lobo accused the Congress of hypocrisy, asserting that the earlier electoral rolls currently under scrutiny were prepared during its tenure. “The so-called Vote Chori issue is nothing but a political drama. The earlier electoral rolls were created by the Congress government, so they should be the last to raise this issue. In fact, the real Vote Chori was done by them,” he said.
Speaking about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Lobo described it as a fresh and necessary administrative exercise. “This is practically a new role and a new assignment. Many voters have passed away, some have changed their citizenship, and there are new voters who have turned 18. The SIR process ensures all these updates are properly reflected,” he explained.
Acknowledging the extensive groundwork involved, Lobo emphasized the need for public cooperation with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting the drive. “The SIR is a tedious but important task. BLOs are working hard, and everyone must assist them to ensure clean and accurate voter lists,” he said.
The SIR drive is currently underway across the State to revise and update electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
