PANAJI: Arpora Sarpanch Roshan Redkar came under sharp attack in the Assembly on Friday, with MLAs Delilah Lobo and Michael Lobo accusing him of granting illegal permissions to nightclubs and misusing his authority in connection with the Birch fire tragedy.
Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo questioned the legality of nightclubs operating in Goa in the absence of a formal Club Policy, alleging that several such establishments are functioning under bar and restaurant licences.
Linking the issue directly to the Birch fire incident, she held Roshan Redkar responsible for issuing permissions to such clubs.
Delilah Lobo informed that the Chief Minister has assured the introduction of a comprehensive club policy at the earliest to prevent such regulatory failures in the future.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo levelled serious allegations against the Arpora Sarpanch, accusing him of misuse of powers. He claimed that 33 No Objection Certificates and 14 renovation permissions were issued without the mandatory signature of the Panchayat Secretary, making the approvals illegal.
He further alleged that even panchayat members were unaware of these permissions and questioned who had authorised them.
Raising concerns over accountability, Michael Lobo also questioned why Roshan Redkar has not yet appeared before the police for questioning in the Birch fire case, despite the seriousness of the incident.
He said the matter points to deep administrative lapses at the panchayat level that must be probed thoroughly.
