Panaji: MLA Vijai Sardesai today brought to the Assembly’s attention the issue of demolition notices issued by various Panchayats targeting houses in Pirna, Assnora, Colvale, Mandrem, and other parts of Goa, citing violations of the Minimum Distance Regulation (MDR).
Sardesai urged the government to listen to the people affected by these notices, cautioning that “you can’t just bulldoze homes.” He warned that around 4,500 houses could face demolition if the notices are enforced.
Sardesai moved an Adjournment Motion to discuss the matter in detail. However, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar disallowed the motion, stating that the issue involves two separate matters — the legality of the Panchayat notices and a Public Works Department (PWD) survey — which cannot be addressed together in an Adjournment Motion.
The exchange highlighted growing public anxiety over housing security amid regulatory actions by local authorities.
