Panaji: Concerns over the suspension of international flight connectivity from Goa were raised in the Assembly on Wednesday, with two MLAs urging the government to intervene with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India.
MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas raised a point of order at the start of the session, seeking an update on the Goa-Gatwick Air India flight, which has been suspended for some time. He questioned whether the state had followed up with the Centre to ensure the resumption of this key route. In response, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that the email communication to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry regarding the Goa-Gatwick route would be sent later in the day.
Meanwhile, Independent MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco voiced concern over Air India’s decision to shut down the direct Goa-Kuwait flight. He urged the state government to immediately approach Air India or the Union Ministry and request reconsideration of the move. “If not two flights per week, at least one should be continued in the interest of Goan travelers and the Goan diaspora,” he said.
Both MLAs stressed the need to maintain and expand Goa’s international air connectivity, which plays a crucial role in supporting tourism and the interests of overseas Goans.
