VASCO: Amid growing discontent over the proposed draft guidelines for app-based taxi aggregators in Goa, members of the All Goa Tourist Taxi Operators’ Association met Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on separate occasions to express their concerns.
During the meeting with Vasco MLA Salkar, the operators highlighted the threat posed to their livelihoods due to the rapid expansion of online taxi platforms. Salkar assured the delegation of his full support, stating, “We must stand by our traditional taxi operators who are sons of the soil. I will raise this issue with higher authorities and work towards a fair resolution.”
In a separate meeting, the taxi operators also met Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and sought his intervention to oppose the aggregator policy. Responding positively, Amonkar assured the operators of his backing and revealed that a meeting of around seven MLAs from the coastal belt is being planned with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to discuss the matter. Amonkar expressed hope that the government would consider scrapping the proposed aggregator policy in its current form.
The taxi operators have consistently opposed the entry of app-based aggregators, claiming it undermines traditional businesses and puts thousands of local livelihoods at risk.
