VASCO: The existing Chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council, Damodar Kaskar, will continue to hold his position after news reports claimed that Kaskar was likely to resign as an MMC Chairperson.
Speaking to Goemkarponn, MMC chairperson Damodar Kaskar said that he was supposed to submit his resignation from the post of Chairperson of MMC on May 31. But tentatively, the BJP party has decided to keep Kaskar as a Chairperson of MMC for some more time.
It may be recalled that on May 31, Kaskar’s one year tenure as a Chairperson got over according to the mutual understanding of the ruling panel. Rumours were going around that most likely councillor Leo Rodrigues would become the next Chairperson. Still, the BJP party has decided not to make any changes in the position of the chairperson of MMC at this time.
Presently there is any uncertainty as to why such a decision was taken by the party and, after completion of one year, why Kaskar has been asked to continue as a Chairperson of MMC.
Mormugao Municipal Council has a total of 25 wards. The ruling panel consists of the councillors backed by Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar. In contrast, the rest of the councillors are supported by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and the Ex MLA of Vasco Carlos Almeida.
