MORMUGAO: The All Goa Municipal Association announced a one-day ‘tools-down/pen-down’ token strike at Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday, to protest against the non-fulfilment of long-pending staff demands despite repeated assurances by the civic administration.
The association stated that several genuine and long-pending issues have remained unresolved, causing hardship and dissatisfaction among employees and workers. The key demands include renewal of the agreement with the Association from November 26, 2021, implementation of unfulfilled charter demands dated January 27, 2022, and implementation and disbursement of MACP benefits to eligible staff.
The association has also sought immediate filling up of vacant posts to ensure smooth civic functioning, release of uniform allowance, provision of protective gear and working facilities, payment of tuition fees to employees and labourers, and payment of bonus to temporary workers.
“All our attempts to address these issues through dialogue have failed. As a last resort, we are compelled to go on a one-day peaceful strike,” an employee stated, adding that the association remains open to sincere and time-bound negotiations in the interest of municipal harmony and uninterrupted services.
The association’s office bearers, including Mahesh M. Salgaonkar, Sanjeev V. Kamble, Umesh Kaimani, and Mangaldas Khandeparkar, had signed the strike notice, copies of which have been marked to the Chairperson of MMC, Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar, Assistant Labour Commissioner, and Vasco Police Inspector a day earlier on Wednesday
