MORMUGAO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a show-cause notice to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) for failing to clear outstanding lease rent dues amounting to ₹8.50 crore.
According to the notice signed by Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik, the council has asked IOCL to explain within 15 days why action should not be initiated against the company under the provisions of The Goa Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1988.
Naik stated that a meeting regarding the outstanding lease rent and execution of the Deed of Lease with IOCL was held on July 21, 2025, followed by communication sent to the oil company on July 22, 2025, enclosing the minutes of the meeting and the rent statement. However, despite correspondence dated August 14, 2025, and a reply issued to IOCL on September 8, 2025, no payment or positive communication was received.
The show-cause notice mentions that IOCL has failed to remit the lease rent payment amounting to ₹8,50,37,829 (Rupees Eight Crore Fifty Lakh Thirty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty-Nine Only).
Naik warned that if the dues are not cleared or a satisfactory explanation is not provided within the stipulated period, the Council will be compelled to initiate eviction proceedings under the law.
The notice has been addressed to the Terminal Manager of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Vasco Terminal, and includes a copy of the detailed statement of outstanding lease rent.
