VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council MMC Chairperson Girish Borker along with all the councillors on Monday offered Rs 1.25 lakhs to the Damodar Bhajani Saptah Ustav Samiti to commemorate the 125th year of the Damodar Saptah festival.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker handed over the cheque to Paresh Joshi who is the President of the Damodar Bhajani Saptah Utsav Samiti in the Damodar temple in the presence of all the councillors.
Speaking to the media, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker said that it was a historic moment as the port town celebrated the 125th year of the Saptah festival.
“I am very fortunate to witness the occasion and I am very lucky to be the MMC Chairperson on this historic moment. We had a discussion with all the Councillors on how we can contribute to the occasion and all the 25 councillors took the decision to offer the amount that is coinciding with the year. We have offered the amount and we have also assured the Samiti of all the help that they may need from our side to ensure that this Saptah is celebrated in a grand fashion. We have also asked the buildings along the FL Gomes road and Swatantra Path to get their buildings illuminated with lighting to mark the historic moment. We will also ensure that the devotees coming from far and wide and different parts of the country will not be inconvenienced in any manner ” said Borker.
