Margao: The municipality elections may have been postponed by another three months but Margao seems to be already in the mood for the ensuing elections.
Not just the people, the political parties have also started making their moves viz-a-viz alliances and identification of candidates even as the reservations are yet to be announced.
Both Goa Forward and Digamber Kamat seems to have made their intentions clear of joining hands ahead of the civic polls to re-scheduled for April.
It is reliably learnt that Goa Forward president Vijai Sardesai will finalise candidates Fatorda whereas Kamat will field candidates in Margao.
The same equation between Vijai and Digambar had emerged victorious in the last MMC polls.
While the GFP-Digambar tie-up is a foregone conclusion, BJP as always is all set to go all-alone.
Sources revealed that the BJP will field all new faces but only problem plaguing the saffron-brigade is the infighting amongst the cadres.
Interestingly, Comba would be the focal point as the close associates of BJP are all set to fight against each other.
Sources from Fatorda BJP Mandal say Damu Naik and company are all out to give new and young faces in all 11 wards of Fatorda.
Sources also confirmed that there are possibilities of rebellion in many wards between BJP karykartas.
When contacted BJP’s Margao Mandal President Rupesh Mahatme said “we are waiting for reservation to be declare. Once reservation is out, we will declare our candidates and I am sure this time we will definitely get BJP flag on Margao Municipality with the help of Fatorda BJP Mandal”.
Issues unresolved
While the Goa Forward and Kamat panel got a clear majority in the 25-member Margao Municipal Council, it failed to make any significant development in last five years.
The MMC panel failed to resolve basic issues like garbage, parking, encroachments, and also failed to implement their manifestos.
Also, the Shadow Council, which acted as watchdog of Margao city has exposed many scams of Margao municipality in last 5 years.
The Shadow council has appealed to the citizens to elect clean candidates for betterment of Margao. Sources said that Shadow Council is likely to file candidates in Margao municipality area and will support independents in others wards.
