VASCO: In a significant move to address the long-standing issue of garbage dumping in public areas, the Mormugao Municipal Corporation (MMC) has decided to impose sanitization fees on vegetable and fruit vendors.
This initiative, announced by MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, aims to streamline waste management while also improving the corporation’s revenue.
“For many years, the MMC did not charge any fees to vendors for garbage collection. Unfortunately, this resulted in vendors dumping garbage indiscriminately, causing hygiene and cleanliness issues across the city,” said Borkar.
He also said that to address this problem and ensure proper waste disposal, we are introducing a nominal sanitization fee.
“This will not only improve cleanliness but also boost the MMC’s income, enabling us to provide better services to the community.” he added
