VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council is likely to shift the fruit vendors sitting on the footpath inside the new temporary shed by next week. MMC chairperson, along with the Councillors and Chief Officer, inspected the new temporary market shed on Wednesday.
Within the two days of becoming the Chairperson of MMC, Leo Rodriques had hit the masterstroke by taking up the issue of shifting fruit vendors inside the new temporary market shed next to the fish vendors by next week.
After the inspection, Leo Rodriques said that the inspection was carried out of the new market shed where the fish vendors were shifted. Now the fruit vendors sitting on the footpath will be shifted along with the Goan vendors inside this new market shed.
He further said that after the shifting of the fruit vendors inside the shed, the parking problem from the city will be solved. Space will be available for parking of vehicles,” he added.
Meanwhile, City Councillor Shami Salkar also said that the inspection was held at the new temporary market shed to review the facilities and any grievances faced by the vendors from this new shed.
Shifting vendors from the footpath have always been a tedious task, which most councillors have tried but failed. The new chairperson of MMC has decided to perform the Herculean task of shifting these fruit vendors inside the new market shed within a few days. Whether he will succeed or not, the time will tell.
