New Delhi: Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with transforming India into a strong and decisive voice on the global stage. In a recent conversation, Vučić described Modi’s leadership as a defining factor behind India’s rising international stature.
He said India’s foreign policy under Modi reflects serious statecraft, with the country engaging confidently with global powers while maintaining independence in its decisions. According to Vučić, discussions with the Indian Prime Minister convey the position of the Indian state itself, free from external influence.
Highlighting key reasons for India’s growing influence, the Serbian leader pointed to Modi’s personal charisma and work ethic, stating that India’s global visibility has increased significantly in recent years. He also emphasised the country’s economic and technological progress, particularly in sectors such as information technology, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
Recalling his first meeting with Modi in Ahmedabad in 2017, Vučić described the Prime Minister as deeply committed to his country and attentive to detail. He said Modi’s leadership style reflects a hands on approach driven by a sense of responsibility towards national development.
On the issue of strategic autonomy, Vučić remarked that maintaining independent decision making earns international respect. Drawing from Serbia’s own experience of facing economic and political pressure, he suggested that India’s strengthened position in global affairs has prevented any sense of isolation.
He also observed that major powers often prefer weaker competitors, making it natural for rising nations to encounter resistance. In this context, he said Modi’s focus on strengthening India’s military capabilities, enhancing its political standing and driving economic growth has been significant. Vučić further noted India’s ability to deepen ties with Western nations through trade agreements while preserving stable relations with countries such as Russia and maintaining a balanced approach towards China.
