New Delhi: Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has renewed his appeal for greater unity within Hindu society and suggested that families consider having at least three children. He was speaking at a social harmony programme held at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Lucknow.
Addressing concerns about demographic trends, Bhagwat said Hindu families should reflect on the importance of maintaining population balance. Referring to studies on fertility rates, he stated that societies with an average rate below three children could face long term decline. He added that newly married couples should be sensitised to this perspective, asserting that marriage carries a broader responsibility of sustaining society, beyond personal aspirations.
Bhagwat emphasised that while there is no immediate threat, vigilance remains essential. He called for unity and empowerment within the community, underlining that social cohesion is key to national strength.
On the issue of illegal infiltration, he urged authorities to identify and take action against those residing unlawfully in the country, stating that such individuals should not be allowed employment opportunities. He linked social discord to discrimination and stressed that all citizens share a common motherland. Describing Sanatan philosophy as rooted in harmony, he said differences should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Responding to questions on regulatory matters such as university guidelines, Bhagwat remarked that laws must be respected, and any perceived shortcomings should be addressed through constitutional processes. On caste divisions, he called for efforts to uplift disadvantaged sections while fostering a sense of shared belonging to prevent conflict.
He also expressed confidence that India’s civilisational values offer solutions to many global challenges and predicted a growing international role for the country. At the same time, he cautioned that certain forces abroad, including in the United States and China, may seek to disrupt India’s social harmony, urging continued alertness and trust within society.
