New Delhi: In a significant move for cricket in Asia, Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has been formally appointed as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). This decision was confirmed during an online meeting, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Asian cricket under Naqvi’s leadership.
At the heart of Naqvi’s vision is the acceleration of cricket’s growth and influence across Asia. Having taken the reins from Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Naqvi is poised to serve as the ACC President for two years. His appointment comes at a pivotal time, with the ACC looking to further solidify its position as a driving force in world cricket.
Naqvi expressed his deep honor at assuming the presidency and stressed his commitment to fostering greater collaboration among member boards. This collaborative approach is aimed at unlocking new opportunities and elevating Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. Additionally, Naqvi praised the outgoing President Shammi Silva for his leadership and expressed gratitude for Silva’s contributions to the ACC.
Shammi Silva, who recently secured re-election as SLC President, acknowledged the significant achievements during the tenure of his predecessor, Jay Shah. These achievements included securing record-breaking commercial rights for the ACC Asia Cup and introducing new developmental pathways for cricket in the region. Silva expressed confidence that under Naqvi’s leadership, the ACC would continue to thrive.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, brings a vision focused on unity, innovation, and strategic growth. The ACC anticipates a dynamic future under his leadership, with a strong emphasis on development programs and youth engagement. This focus is expected to enhance the global prominence of Asian cricket and reinforce Asia’s status as the epicenter of world cricket.
