SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the devastating impact of the monsoon, with 106 lives lost and extensive damage to property and public infrastructure between June 20 and July 15, 2025, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Of the total fatalities, 62 deaths have been directly linked to rain-related disasters such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and accidental falls, while 44 people have died in road accidents during this period.
The SDMA’s cumulative report reveals that among the 62 rain-related deaths, 15 were caused by cloudbursts, 12 from accidental falls from trees or rocky slopes, 11 by drowning, 8 in flash floods, 5 due to electrocution, 5 from snake bites, and 1 each in a landslide and a fire incident.
In terms of road accidents, 44 fatalities were reported across various districts, with Kullu (7), Kinnaur (5), and Mandi (4) among the most affected regions.
Beyond the tragic loss of human lives, the monsoon has wreaked havoc on homes, farmland, and essential services:
• 293 pucca houses and 91 kaccha houses have been completely destroyed.
• Nearly 850 hectares of agricultural land have suffered damage.
• Public infrastructure, including roads, power lines, water supply systems, and health and education facilities, has sustained damage worth over ₹81 crore.
Emergency response teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with local administration and rescue agencies, have been working round the clock to carry out rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.
The SDMA has urged citizens to remain vigilant as heavy rains continue to lash several parts of the state. People have been advised to follow weather alerts and adhere strictly to safety guidelines issued by authorities to prevent further casualties.
With the monsoon far from over and the forecast predicting more rain, officials warn that the situation remains fragile. The state government continues to monitor the situation closely while prioritizing evacuation, shelter, and relief for the affected communities.
