The monsoon is likely to enjoy an extended period in Goa this year as the weather phenomenon is set for a late withdrawal.
The normal date of monsoon withdrawal for the State is October 14.
However, the monsoon withdrawal for the country, which starts from Northwest India by September 17, has begun today.
Goa reported over six per cent excess rains during the four-month long season.
In a press statement issued by IMD, it is said that in view of the establishment of an anti-cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels over western parts of northwest India and substantial reduction in moisture content & rainfall, the withdrawal of southwest monsoon has commenced today against normal date of 17th September.
Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of west Rajasthan and some parts of adjoining Gujarat today, the October 6.
IMD has said that the Conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of Gujarat, entire Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Madhya Pradesh during next 3-4 days.
