The DHS further said that a total of 120 sample reports received so far, 109 positive for Delta variant, 10 positive for Kappa and 1 positive for Alpha variant, reports of 2 samples yet to be received, no delta plus variant detected in state.
In the wake of spurt in cases of the new Covid-19 variant and a delay in its identification by the National Institute of Virology in Pune, the Goa government is in process to set up its own genome sequencing lab.
Cabinet Minister Vishwajit Rane spoke about the delay in receiving the results of samples sent to the NIV. “Samples were sent everal weeks ago had not been returned,” he had said, mentioning that the state is clueless about the strains prevalent there.
