PANAJI: Today, the Panchayat director withdrew the stop-work order issued to ongoing work on Mopa link road by the local Panchayat.
Today, the Directorate passed the final order in the Mopa link road case, which allowed the appeal filed by the contractor.
“The contractor during the filing of appeal today said that the said link road project is important to the public. The project is very important to the under-construction Mopa International Airport, without which the aviation project is of no use,” said Panchayat Director Siddhi Harlarnkar
She further said that Panchayat does not have the jurisdiction to issue a stop-work order for any state government project.
“It is important to note that the contractor has all the required permissions to begin the construction of the link road,” she added.
Meanwhile, Varkhand Nagzar panchayat today said they will challenge the order before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
On Friday the Director of Panchayat on Friday completed hearing arguments from both Panchayat and the contractor in the Mopa link road case and kept the matter for final orders on Monday, April 4.
On February 28, the Director of Panchayat Siddhi Halarnkar, by an ex-parte order, had stayed the stop-work order issued by the Warkhand-Nagzar village panchayat to the contractor undertaking construction of the Mopa link road.
The construction of a link road to the Mopa Greenfield airport faces stiff opposition from the villages of Tulaswadi, Nagzar, Warkhand and Dhargal since the road is going through these villages and forests while destroying these villages plantation.
