Valpoi: The house of Vasudev Morajkar at Morle Gimoye in Morle Gram Panchayat collapsed during heavy rain on Saturday midnight, leaving the family in distress. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though household belongings were damaged.
The remaining portion of the mud house has also been declared unsafe and could collapse at any moment.
According to the family, cracks had appeared in the structure over the past few days, but due to financial constraints, repairs or reconstruction were not possible. Continuous heavy rainfall eventually caused half of the house to cave in.
Upon receiving the information, local MLA and Chairperson of the Goa Forest Development Corporation, Dr. Deviya Rane, assured that a new house would be sanctioned for the family at the earliest. A survey has already been initiated to expedite the process. “We will ensure that the family faces no further inconvenience,” Dr. Rane stated.
Panchayat Sarpanch Amit Shirodkar and Panch member Ruchita Mainkar visited the spot, assessed the situation, and informed the MLA. They also arranged for the family to be temporarily shifted. Meanwhile, the local Talathi has conducted a panchnama and forwarded the report to higher authorities for government assistance and compensation.
The Panchayat has assured that all possible efforts are being made at the local level until the family receives permanent relief.
