MORMUGAO: Reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 with a large-scale tree plantation programme titled ‘Aavaychi Bagh’ — a heartfelt tribute to “Mother”.
The plantation drive was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. N. Vinodkumar, IPoS, Chairperson of MPA, in the presence of the Deputy Chairperson, Heads of Departments, senior officials, port employees, and staff of Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Ltd.
The theme ‘Aavaychi Bagh’, which translates to “Mother’s Garden”, was conceived to blend ecological responsibility with emotional resonance, encouraging participants to plant and nurture trees in honour of their mothers. Many saplings were planted during the event, making it a truly impactful and hands-on effort towards improving green cover in and around the port area.
Dr. Vinodkumar, while addressing the gathering, emphasised the importance of environmental sustainability in port operations and praised the active involvement of all stakeholders. “Planting a tree is one of the simplest yet most powerful acts for the planet. This initiative is not just symbolic — it is a real, measurable step towards a greener and healthier future,” he said.
The newly planted garden will be developed and maintained by Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Ltd. as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. Officials confirmed that regular maintenance and expansion of the green space will be undertaken to ensure long-term ecological benefits.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from MPA employees and Adani staff, who contributed to the plantation effort with a shared sense of pride and purpose. The initiative reinforced MPA’s vision of balancing industrial growth with environmental stewardship.
