MORMUGAO: Trade Meet 2025, hosted by Delta Ports Mormugao Terminal Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) and supported by Goa-IDC, concluded with a clear vision to revive container shipping from Mormugao Port and strengthen Goa’s logistics and supply chain network.
Chief Guest Transport and Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho said the revival of container services would ease logistics, cut costs for businesses and open new opportunities for Goan industries. “The port is a natural resource that must be fully utilised, not only for trade but also to support our growing sectors like pharmaceuticals, which contribute over 8% of global production from a small state like ours. With upgraded infrastructure, including cranes, MPA is taking the right steps, and I urge industries to make the most of these facilities,” said Godinho.
Goa-IDC Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco stressed the critical role of logistics in industrial growth and assured full support from Goa-IDC in enabling efficient supply chains and creating new opportunities.
Reflecting on the port’s long history, MPA Deputy Chairperson Vinayak Rao said: “Mormugao Port has been a cornerstone of Goa’s economy since 1885. Despite challenges, including the mining ban, the port is now firmly back on the path of growth. With the revival of container services and the 30-year concession agreement with Delta Ports, we are well placed to re-establish Mormugao Port as a thriving container hub.”
Goa-IDC Managing Director Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, said the operationalisation of the container terminal at Mormugao would directly benefit Goa’s MSMEs and industries by reducing logistics costs and enabling faster exports. “Instead of transporting cargo to JNPT and Navi Mumbai, our industries can now access world-class facilities right here in Goa,” he added.
Delta Ports Managing Director Shamil Ahmed echoed this vision. “Goa has always been a national maritime gateway, and with modern infrastructure and multimodal connectivity, Mormugao Port is uniquely positioned to re-emerge as a container hub. With our 30-year concession agreement with MPA, Delta Ports is committed to reducing logistics costs, ensuring faster turnaround and providing world-class facilities for the trade community,” said Ahmed.
The meet also featured a panel discussion on “Charting a New Course: Synergizing Stakeholders to Revive and Expand Goa Port’s Container Services,” with participation from MPA’s Vinayak Rao, Delta Ports’ Shamil Ahmed, Unifeeder’s C M Murlidharan and Deccan Chemicals’ Kishore Prabhat. The session highlighted collaborative strategies to strengthen Goa’s maritime ecosystem and drive sustainable growth.
The event concluded with a collective call to action, urging all stakeholders to work together towards positioning Goa as a competitive gateway to global trade.
