VASCO: The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted inspections in Chicalim village to check for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA). The Enforcement Squad booked fourteen cases for violation of Section 4 and four cases of 6(a) and recovered fines of Rs.3600/- from Banks, Supermarkets,
Grocery Stores, Liquor stores, Restaurants and Fast Food Kiosks.
The Squad which was led by Gajesh P. Shirodkar Joint Mamlatdar-III Mormugao Taluka included GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, Circle Inspector Hanumant Mandrekar, Chicalim Talathi Maniurahmed Bepari, Cortalim PHC Sanitary Inspector Bhaskar Yadav, and Police constables Naeem Walikar & Prajyot Shetye of Vasco Police Station.
During the inspection, the Squad also found in some establishments that the No Smoking signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA and the FSSAI Registration Certificate was not displayed. The report of the inspection will be submitted to the South Goa District Collector Asvin Chandru A, IAS and Dr. Sarah George Member Secretary District Level Coordination Committee for COTPA at the next quarterly review meeting.
