PANAJI: Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), stated that Rs 1,376 crore had been approved for the four-laning of a 22-kilometer section of the NH66 between Bendurdem (Quepem) and Polem (Canacona).
Gadkari announced the project’s financial approval on X, saying it is a crucial route for South Goa and an essential element of the four-lane Mumbai-to-Kanyakumari corridor.
For the four-laning of Benordem–start of Canacona Manohar Parrikar Road (MPCBR) and from MPCBR to Polem on Hybrid Annuity Mode, the Ministry issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) last month.
“We have authorized Rs 1,376 crore for the four-laning of a 22.10-kilometer section on NH 66 in Goa, which includes the section from Bendurdem to the start of the Canacona bypass and from the end of the bypass to the Karnataka border at Polem,” Gadkari stated.
“It greatly improves the State’s overall connectivity and acts as a vital conduit linking the towns of Margao, Cuncolim, and Canacona,” he continued.
According to the Union Minister, this stretch, which passes through the villages of Bendurdem, Cordem, Barcem, and Canacona, is essential for enhancing intra-state connection to important cities like Panaji and Margao as well as for easing interstate commerce with Karnataka and Maharashtra.
“The project will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and target important accident-prone areas in the area,” Gadkari stated.
