PANAJI: MPA Chairman Dr N. Vinod Kumar today said that the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is bouncing back from tough times caused by a mining ban.
Kumar was addressing the gathering during the 10th Edition CII Goa Conference on Logistics.
Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is bouncing back from tough times caused by a mining ban. Last year, the port saw a remarkable 19% increase in cargo handled, indicating a strong recovery. To further boost growth, the MPA is investing Rs 1,152 crore in various projects.” said Kumar
He further said that MPA created history by being the first port in the country and the Southeast Asian region to offer discounts to environment-friendly ships under the ‘Harit Shreya Scheme’.
Vinodkumar said the MPA wanted to have eco-friendly ships coming to the port. “In the policies issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, we have a Harit Sagar programme which speaks of giving discounts to eco-friendly vessels,” said Dr Vinodkumar.
“We have come up with an initiative where we will check the Environment Sensitivity Index (ESI) scores of ships given to them by the International Association of Ports and Harbours. The ESI scores range from 0-100 and most ports give discounts to vessels with the ESI score above 30.
“The growth in volume by the port will be the highest among the 12 major ports of India in 2023–24,” he said.
