Margao: The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Margao has formally sent the Mungul gang clash case to the South Goa Sessions Court, clearing the way for the commencement of trial proceedings.
Acting under provisions of Section 232 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the Magistrate ordered all accused persons who are presently on bail to remain present before the Sessions Court on January 17, 2025, at 10 a.m.
The court has directed that the Public Prosecutor attached to the Sessions Court be notified in advance regarding the scheduled appearance of the accused.
As part of procedural compliance, the Magistrate instructed court officials to immediately transfer all seized material evidence submitted by the investigating agency to the Sessions Court. The concerned criminal branch officer has also been ordered to forward all original remand documents and related case papers without delay.
Additionally, any statements recorded before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code are to be transmitted in original form along with the complete case records and proceedings.
The case arises from the alleged Mungul gang violence, in which the Fatorda police booked 28 individuals on charges related to attempt to murder. Most of the accused in the case have been granted bail.
The South Goa Sessions Court will now take up the matter for further legal proceedings.
