PANJIM: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday said that the elections for 11 Municipal Council will be held on October 18.
The SEC also informed that the State government has agreed upon the proposal send by Commission keeping in mind the Covid 19 situation in the state.
Speaking to media Election Commissioner R K Srivastava said “The elections will take place on October 18 only if the current COVID situation normalizes or will take a call on appropriate time. We have to hold elections at least 15 days prior to the expiry of the current tenure, which will end on November 4. Hence, we had proposed to government to conduct polls on October 18”
“The Commissioner said that as per Constitution, irrespective of the pandemic, we have to start the process for holding elections before end of a particular term. “And we are going as per the constitution,” he said adding that the dates are finalize for the preparedness of State machinery.
The SEC has also clarified that conducting of Municipal elections is subject to the improvement of Covid situation in the state.
