In a scathing attack on the Congress-RJD alliance in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said his mother was verbally abused on a campaign stage of the Opposition bloc. In doing so, he said, the Opposition alliance had humiliated every mother and sister.
New Delhi/Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the Congress-RJD alliance, accusing the Opposition of insulting his late mother during a campaign in Bihar. Modi said the remarks were not just a personal attack but an affront to “every mother and sister in India.”
“In Bihar, slangs were used for my mother from an RJD-Congress stage. This insult was not just directed at my mother, but at crores of mothers and sisters across the country. I know you are as pained as I am,” the Prime Minister said while addressing nearly 20 lakh women via video conferencing during the launch of the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited, a scheme to provide funds to women entrepreneurs.
Recalling the hardships of his late mother, Heeraben Modi, the PM said:
“Mother would work even when she was ill. She saved every penny to clothe us. There are crores of such mothers in India. The place of a mother is higher than gods and goddesses.”
Taking aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Modi said political dynasts could never understand such struggles.
“Princes born with silver spoons think power in Bihar is their family’s right. But the people of Bihar have chosen the son of an underprivileged mother as their pradhan sevak. The naamdars cannot digest this,” he said.
Modi accused the Opposition of repeatedly resorting to personal slurs.
“They have called me neech, gandi nali ka keeda, a snake, and now they even use ‘tu’ for me,” he said, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks at a recent rally.
The controversy erupted after a viral video from Darbhanga, Bihar, showed youngsters on a Congress-RJD campaign stage hurling abuses at the PM while holding party flags. Images of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav were seen displayed prominently on the stage.
The remarks have sparked a fresh war of words between the ruling BJP and the Opposition bloc, with the Prime Minister framing the issue as one of respect for women and mothers nationwide.
