CALANGUTE: It has been already 24 hours after the body of a Mapusa girl working in a Porvorim Mall was found on Calangute shores, and there has been a break-through in the case so far.
The police have said that the post-mortem report on the girl has concluded that the death has been due to drowning. However, this has thrown up more questions than answers.
Sources revealed that the rape has been ruled out by the autopsy report.
“However, the viscera and swabs have been saved for further study,” a top source in the Goa Medical College said.
At this juncture, we cannot say what exactly happened, said the source.
Sources further revealed that the family did not press for further investigation after autopsy and took the body.
How the body reached Calangute?
The police, for now, have been searching for the clothes of the girl, who was found in a semi-nude state.
A police official, speaking to Goemkarponn, on condition of anonymity, said that the clothes would give some kind of evidence.
“We cannot say anything. We have found out that the girl did not report to work on Wednesday after she was seen near Green park Hotel,” the officer said.
He said that the body was found within 24 hours, and if there was a rape, it would have been reported in the post-mortem.
Police are also investigating with the family why the girl left her mobile at home.
Clothes a mystery of police…
Police sources said that while the case is clearly drowning, they are surprised by the body’s condition.
“We all know the condition in which teh body was found, and the police are trying to join all the clues, and hopefully they would reach a conclusion. But as of now, nothing more can be said,” the police source said.
The body of a young woman was found in a semi-nude state at Calangute beach in North Goa.
As per preliminary investigation conducted by the Calangute Police in the morning could not be ascertained whether it is rape or murder at the moment.
As per social media posts from her friends and family, the girl was last seen near Green Park Hotel near Mapusa and later, after that moment, her whereabouts were untraceable.
