Panaji: The Panaji Police have booked 19 persons, all residents of Mala, for allegedly forming an unlawful assembly and obstructing police officers who were responding to a complaint of loud music during Narkasur festivities early Monday morning.
According to police, an offence was registered at 9:27 am on October 20 based on a complaint filed by PSI Mahesh Naik of Panaji Police Station.
The incident occurred around 8:02 am at Neuginagar, Mala, when the accused—organisers of a Narkasur effigy titled Prince of Mala—allegedly confronted police personnel who had arrived to act on a PCR call about loud music.
The accused, identified as Dharmanand Salgaonkar, Pritesh Naik, Krupesh Mashelkar, Krishna Naik, Ishwar Vaigankar, Kapil Bagkar, Sarvesh Shirodkar, Mayur Agarwadekar, Allwyn Rodrigues, Pratamesh Vaigankar, Pranav Shanbag, Gaurang Bhinge, Kedar Patil, Mohit Naik, Vishant Shirodkar, Dharmananad Salgaonkar, Pravin Sutar, Saurab Narulkar, and Gaurav Shirodkar, allegedly pushed the police staff and restrained them from carrying out their lawful duty.
Police said the group’s actions deterred officers from stopping the loud music being played during the festivities. Further investigation is underway.
