TALEIGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the Logo for the 37th National Games 2023 to be held in Goa in the presence of Union MoS for Sports & Youth Affairs Nisith Pramanik, Union MoS Shripad Naik, Goa Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Govind Gaude and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
“The countdown for the National Games has begun. All the infrastructure, human resource and other facilities are ready in the state. The Govt. of Goa and all the concerned authorities shall ensure that it will be a memorable sports event in the country,” said Sawant
Dr Sawant said the State was ready to host the Games and would now be open for sports tourism. Goa would participate, winning medals not being a big issue, added Dr Sawant.
Amitabh Sharma, IOC’s Executive Council Member delivered a speech from PT Usha, IOC President, who could not make it to Goa. She said she hoped to see new records and hoped the sporting extravaganza would inspire the future generation of sportsmen and women.
Kalyan Chaubey, AIFF President said in later years, Goa would be seen as an example of how it could be done. He said with 43 disciplines it would be the biggest National Games ever to be held.
Finally, Nishith Pramanik, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said: “ We made the right decision to hold it in Goa.”
The expectations of looking for a spectacular logo were belied as compared to the extravagant function.
Along with spiritual and medical tourism, Goa will be also known for sports tourism in near future. We will support all the national events in the state,” Sawant said.
He said that Goa is in first place to host national and international events successfully. “All guests of G-20 and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), during the events in Goa appreciated our hospitality,” he said.
Sawant earlier had urged parents to encourage their children to watch the games so that they can get inspired.
“Preparations to host the National Games in October are almost done. The dates will be finalised soon. Our efforts are on to encourage youth in sports. But parents also should encourage their children to watch games, so that they get inspiration,” he said.
Sawant had said that the National Games will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
