Panaji: INDIA bloc leaders on Tuesday accused the BJP of organised corruption and it was very evident during the national games.
In a joint press conference, Shivsena (UBT) President Jitesh Kamat, Congress leader Manisha Usgaonkar and AAP leader Rajesh Kalangutkar attacked the BJP government over corruption.
Jitesh Kamat said that earlier some notorious drug paddlers brought ‘organised crime’ to achieve their goals, similar to how the BJP is also working.
“Be it Kala Academy or any other project. They have systematically looted the state exchequer,” Kamat said.
Kalangutkar said that organised corruption is also taking place in the sports department in Goa. “Ministers set the target of corruption and they decided how much they can loot per day. National games are one of the examples of Goa’s corruption, where huge corruption took place. It was properly organised corruption,” he said.
He said that the mascot launch of national games cost Rs 68 lakhs and the launching of ‘MOGA’ was done at the cost of Rs 3 crore. “During the advertisement, the BJP did publicity for their leaders. The National Games was a big scam. But they failed to pay volunteers. They are still not paid,” he said.
Kalangutkar said that national games didn’t help Goan athletes as the government failed to create new infrastructure. “ There is no new infrastructure. Temporary tents which were installed are taken back by contractors. They didn’t even give contracts to locals fearing their corruption would get exposed,” he said.
“BJP government has misused public money. Goa has not benefited from it. Government should explain,” he said.
Speaking over the statement of Congress South Goa candidate Capt. Viriato Fernandes, Shivsena (UBT) leader Jeetesh Kamat said that former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and MLA Sankalp Amonkar have no moral right to speak about the constitution.
“BJP is known to twist statements of opposition. Viriato Fernandes is a retired Indian Navy officer, he respects the Constitution. But Digambar Kamat and his other seven defectors have not respected the constitution,” he said.
