PONDA: The annual Navratri festival began in Temple City Ponda on Monday, and on the first day, people thronged to temples to visit and seek the blessing of god and goddesses, which are all decked with flowers and lighting.
During the festival of Navaratri, various religious activities like Makhorostav are celebrated, wherein the Makhar, well decorated with flowers, is installed with the idol of the temple’s main deity.
On auspicious occasions, people attend the temple to listen to Kirtan, the swinging of idols in Makhar, Aarti. There are hundreds of temples in Ponda Taluka. The various forms of goddess Durga are worshipped during Navaratri nights in a particular order, performing various religious rituals.
