MARGAO: The Additional Sessions Court has acquitted a Navelim resident of rape charges.
The decision was made due to the prosecution’s failure to provide sufficient evidence to prove the accused’s guilt.
The case centred around allegations of sexual relations under false pretences and the circulation of an intimate video.
However, the court found that the evidence presented did not establish the accused’s responsibility for sharing the video. Furthermore, the court noted that the minor victim, aged 17 at the time, had willingly engaged in a relationship with the accused.
Her testimony did not indicate any coercion or resistance, suggesting a consensual relationship.
Despite the prosecution calling 13 witnesses, the lack of concrete evidence led to the accused’s acquittal.
