Mumbai: The newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, marks a major milestone in India’s infrastructure growth and stands as a symbol of the nation’s rising ambitions, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said.
Celebrating the occasion on X, Adani wrote, “From blueprints to skylines, from dreams to runways, today India soars higher as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport.” He expressed gratitude to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, and officials from both the Centre and the state for their support.
Adani also thanked the thousands of people involved in the project’s construction, saying, “A heartfelt thank you to every construction worker, engineer, artisan, security guard, partner and team member whose dedication turned vision into reality. Together, we have built more than an airport — we have built a symbol of Bharat’s aspirations.”
At the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi described the airport as a glimpse into the vision of Viksit Bharat. Built on the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the airport’s lotus-shaped design, he said, reflects both cultural pride and modern progress.
Modi highlighted that with Navi Mumbai International Airport becoming operational, Mumbai now joins the ranks of global cities with multiple international airports. The project, he said, will boost regional and global connectivity, support farmers in exporting produce directly to international markets, and ease congestion at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
He added that the expansion of aviation infrastructure across smaller cities has opened new opportunities for millions of Indians. Citing the success of the UDAN scheme, he said it has made air travel affordable and accessible, helping India emerge as the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market.
“With the launch of new airports and affordable flights, countless citizens have taken their first flight in the past decade and turned their dreams into reality,” the Prime Minister said.
