New Delhi: In a recent address in Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the role of past policies in fostering Naxalism, particularly in regions where development was lacking. He emphasized how decades of neglect under previous governments allowed Maoist insurgency to flourish, especially in areas like Chhattisgarh. Simultaneously, Modi highlighted the significant shift towards peace in Maoist-affected regions due to ongoing development efforts under his administration.
Prime Minister Modi’s remarks were made during a public meeting in Mohbhattha village, Bilaspur district, where he directly linked the encouragement of Maoism to Congress policies. “The regions that lagged behind in development saw a rise in Naxalism under Congress rule,” he noted. Modi criticized previous governments for their indifference towards the needs of poor tribals in Maoist-affected areas, which he claimed exacerbated the problem.
The Prime Minister highlighted several central initiatives, including Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Ayushman Bharat Yojana, as part of the government’s broader strategy to address social and health disparities. He emphasized how the BJP government focuses not only on building houses but also on enriching the lives of residents in Chhattisgarh. This contrasts sharply with past administrations, which Modi accused of neglecting development and leaving behind the dreams of the poor, particularly in housing.
The BJP’s efforts, according to Modi, have led to a surge in public trust due to its fulfillment of promises. In Chhattisgarh, this has manifested in significant development projects and a marked shift towards peace in areas once plagued by Maoist violence.
