PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the Manohar International Airport at Mopa has generated significant employment opportunities for local residents, particularly from North Goa, while reiterating that certain operational details cannot be placed in the public domain due to confidentiality constraints.
Highlighting Goa’s status as a globally preferred tourist destination, Sawant said the growth of tourism and allied industries across the State has expanded employment avenues, with both Dabolim and Mopa airports playing a key role in facilitating tourist movement based on traveller convenience.
According to information provided by the government, a total of 4,976 people are currently working at Manohar International Airport, including personnel from Government of India agencies. Excluding central government agencies, the airport employs 4,017 staff members, of whom 2,018 are Goans.
The Chief Minister said that a substantial portion of the workforce has been drawn from the surrounding region.
“Approximately 62 per cent of the people working at Manohar International Airport are from the Pedne constituency. This reflects the government’s focus on ensuring local employment while developing world-class infrastructure,” Sawant said.
However, the government clarified that further details related to job categories, individual posts and salary structures cannot be disclosed, as they pertain to private entities operating at the airport and are considered company confidential.
Sawant added that with Goa’s tourism sector continuing to grow, infrastructure projects like Mopa airport are expected to further boost economic activity and create sustained employment opportunities across the State, while maintaining operational confidentiality where required.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the government will continue to encourage local participation in major infrastructure projects, even as it respects contractual and corporate confidentiality obligations.
