Panaji: Civil courts across Goa have received 2,954 marriage and divorce-related petitions from January 2022 to June 2025, with Salcete taluka alone accounting for nearly a third of the total cases, official data shows.
According to figures presented by Law and Judiciary Minister Aleixo Sequeira, Salcete topped the list with 994 petitions, followed by Bardez with 692, and Tiswadi with 347.
The statistics further reveal that as of June this year, 2,237 matrimonial cases — including those related to child custody, domestic violence, and maintenance — remain pending across various talukas.
Bardez leads with 696 pending cases, followed by Tiswadi (430) and Salcete (330).
The Minister dismissed suggestions that the pendency is due to the absence of dedicated Family Courts in each taluka, stating that the “pendency ratio” does not support this claim.
