PANAJI: As part of a coordinated state-level nakabandi conducted on October 11, Goa Police checked nearly 4,000 persons and close to 3,000 vehicles across North and South districts to enhance law and order vigilance.
According to data released by the department, a total of 3,979 persons and 2,972 vehicles were checked across both districts. The operation also led to 35 preventive arrests, 86 actions under COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act), and 88 actions for smoking and spitting violations.
In North Goa, 2,560 persons and 1,992 vehicles were checked, resulting in 23 preventive arrests. Police also initiated 47 COTPA actions and 32 for smoking and spitting offences. Calangute, Saligao, and Old Goa stations reported the highest number of preventive arrests in the district.
In South Goa, 1,419 persons and 980 vehicles were checked, with 12 preventive arrests, 39 COTPA violations, and 56 cases of smoking and spitting offences recorded. Police stations at Colva, Cuncolim, and Mormugao reported notable action during the drive.
The statewide nakabandi was aimed at maintaining public safety, curbing criminal activity, and ensuring compliance with public health and safety regulations.
Senior police officials said similar drives would continue across the state in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen preventive policing.
