New Delhi: As the world prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has underscored the urgent need for a society where individuals are not judged based on their gender, caste, or religion. This vision was highlighted at a ceremony honoring women changemakers, where Gadkari emphasized the importance of meritocracy over social status. The event also featured Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who discussed Haryana’s strides in women’s empowerment, particularly through initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.”
At the heart of Gadkari’s message is the imperative to judge individuals based on their talent and contributions rather than their caste, gender, religion, or social status. This call to action is particularly relevant in today’s society, where women are increasingly taking the lead in various fields. The Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar Mahila Samman awards, instituted by the Kamala Ankibai Ghamandiram Gowani Trust, recognize women changemakers who embody this spirit of achievement and leadership. Notably, Gadkari pointed out that women now comprise 75% of top achievers in many areas, demonstrating their capabilities when given equal opportunities.
In Haryana, significant progress has been made in women’s empowerment, thanks in part to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative. During his tenure as chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar oversaw the establishment of 30 police stations dedicated to women, managed entirely by women officers. This move has empowered women to report their concerns without hesitation, marking a crucial step towards a more inclusive society.
