New Delhi: Reigning world champion and India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has officially booked his place in the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, Switzerland. The men’s javelin final is scheduled for August 28, as per the latest standings released after the Silesia leg on Saturday.
Despite skipping the Silesia meet, Chopra qualified comfortably with 15 points earned from his two Diamond League appearances this season. The two-time Olympic medallist is tied in second place with Germany’s Julian Weber, while Trinidad and Tobago’s 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott leads the standings with 17 points from three events.
The 27-year-old has been in stellar form this season. He set a new national record of 90.23m in Doha, where he finished second, and later clinched victory at the Paris leg with a throw of 88.16m.
The Zurich finale is expected to witness a high-voltage contest featuring Chopra, Weber, Walcott, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva. Chopra, who won the Diamond League trophy in 2022 and finished runner-up in 2023 and 2024, has yet to officially confirm his participation in the final.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, who won gold at the Paris 2024 Games, has opted out of the Diamond League circuit this season.
