Calangute: Police have registered a case against a Nepalese national residing in Calangute for allegedly using a fabricated electricity bill to obtain an Aadhaar card, officials said.
According to the police, the accused submitted the fake power bill as proof of address at the Indian Overseas Bank branch in Margao while applying for Aadhaar.
The matter surfaced after a Calangute resident lodged a complaint claiming that the Aadhaar card was later misused to procure a PAN card without his consent or knowledge.
Following the complaint, police carried out a preliminary inquiry and registered an offence under sections related to forgery and misuse of documents.
Authorities said the investigation is in progress to determine the scale of the alleged fraud and to check whether similar attempts were made at other locations.
As part of the probe, police are examining bank records and all documents submitted during the Aadhaar application process. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
