New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, with both leaders agreeing to meet soon as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations. According to officials in Jerusalem, the conversation was warm and forward-looking, reflecting the steady rise in high-level engagement between India and Israel.
The upcoming meeting is expected to follow a series of ministerial visits that have expanded cooperation across trade, investment and strategic sectors. India hosted several senior Israeli ministers earlier this year, including the Minister of Tourism, the Minister of Economy and Industry, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Finance Minister. These visits helped accelerate progress on multiple bilateral initiatives.
During the Finance Minister’s visit, the two countries signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty aimed at boosting investor confidence and opening new avenues for economic collaboration. This was followed by the signing of a Terms of Reference that paved the way for a Free Trade Agreement, during the visit of India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry to Israel last month. Both sides have signaled strong intent to move the FTA negotiations forward.
Reports claiming that Netanyahu had postponed his visit to India due to security concerns after recent incidents in Delhi were firmly dismissed by informed officials in Israel. They reiterated complete confidence in India’s security systems and clarified that discussions are underway to finalise the dates for the visit.
The expected meeting between the two prime ministers is seen as a significant step in sustaining the long-standing strategic partnership. With defence cooperation, technology exchange and economic ties already forming the core of bilateral relations, both countries are looking to deepen collaboration in emerging areas while maintaining a steady diplomatic dialogue.
