MARGAO: Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira today clarified that he never saw any club or tavern playing loud music during his unexpected visit, contrary to what the news article claimed and that the sound pollution along the coastal strip is not a “farce.”
“It surprises me to learn that I told a reporter what I said in this news article. The truth is that I haven’t recently been interviewed by any reporters about this topic,” said Sequeira.
“I never claimed that it was a farce. I’d visited the belt. Not even my policemen knew about it. I’m not sure if the taxi I used told them (residents of the coastal belt) or not. all throughout the belt…I had brought a reporter with me, and I swear to you that I did not find a single location playing loud music,” he stated.
Sequeira said that is painful that the Hon’ble High Court has had to monitor this issue.
“I will be going again shortly. Give me some time and I will put things in place,” he added.
Declaring that the police are the relevant authorities to address the subject of sound pollution, Sequeira said that although he had established a committee with representatives from the pollution control board, police, and the deputy collector, it had not been successful.
“I took it upon myself because everyone was playing football,” he remarked.
He went on to say that the installed sound monitoring equipment is only able to provide general information such as the direction of the sound; it is not able to identify the precise location of the unit.
“Having said this, this does not prevent us from going on the ground and checking,” he continued.
He said, “Give me a little time, and I’ll get everything in order.”
